Who do we serve and where?

  • Vocational and Career Counseling Top
Counseling includes discussion of suitable jobs, physical demands of the job, vocational and educational preparation for the jobs, and labor market conditions.

  • Initial Intake Interview Top
This includes written and verbal information regarding personal facts such as age, address, marital status, children, education, medical problems, injuries, and information regarding employment history.

  • Vocational Assessment and Evaluation Top
Assessments consist of a battery of tests for abilities, aptitudes, and interests. Intelligence and personality tests are given as needed or requested. Test results are then matched with career fields that might be suitable based upon the physical limitations of the individual. Assessments can be provided for individuals applying for Social Security Disability Income.

  • Case Management Top
Case management services are provided to individuals after a vocational plan has been completed. These individuals may be in training or they may be working on other problems such as drug or alcohol abuse/addiction, spousal abuse, or medical instability to prepare to return to work.

  • Medical Management Top
Medical management services are provided to assist the injured or disabled person to reach a level of improvement that will allow them to return to their previous employer or to find employment with another business.

  • Job Analyses Top
Job analyses are performed to determine the physical demands of a particular job with a specific employer. This information can be obtained through a combination of verbal communication with the employer/client, visiting the job site if needed to view the job being performed, and the information in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles. This information is matched with the physical limitations and work restrictions of the individual to determine if the job is suitable.

  • Labor Market Survey Top
Labor market surveys are completed to locate jobs for an individual within specific job fields or within specific physical requirements. Information to include job title, location, point of contact, salary, and any other relevant facts are provided to the client. If the individual in question has a specific limitation such as inability to lift more than 20 pounds, this may be discussed with the employer to determine if the job would be suitable.

  • Transferable Skills Analysis Top
This analysis includes a thorough evaluation of all previous work history to determine what skills an individual has acquired. Education and vocational training are reviewed to find if the person has attained skills in this manner. These skills are then compared with any physical limitations of the individual. The last factor of this process is a review of the labor market to determine if these skills are in demand.

  • Individualized Written Rehabilitation Plan Development Top
A feasible plan is developed for each individual serviced. This plan is a blueprint for the services to be provided and is comprehensive in nature. The plan is developed in conjunction with the individual and takes into account the factors of the individual's personal history, his education and training, his work history, his transferable skills, his medical condition and limitations, physical demands of the targeted vocational goal, his financial needs, the amount of time needed to achieve the goal, level of abilities, aptitudes and interests, and labor market conditions. The plan is developed in collaboration with the individual and with the approval of the referral source.

  • Job Seeking Skills Training Top
This training is designed to prepare individuals for a successful job search. Each individual is assessed initially to determine his/her individual needs. Basic training includes sessions on completing an application, developing a resume, writing a cover letter and thank you letter, preparing for an interview, mock interviews, job search resources, maintaining a job log, information interviewing, and disability disclosure and self-advocacy. Sessions are usually conducted in a group setting.

  • Job Readiness Assessment Top
A job readiness assessment is used to determine whether the individual has the skills and tools required to find suitable employment. Factors in this decision include adequate work skills and education required of the targeted career, ability to communicate effectively, an effective resume, an understanding of appropriate behavior and attire suitable for the targeted career, a realistic expectation regarding wage/salary and benefits, and an understanding of disclosure regarding any disability or injury. Any deficiencies detected should be addressed in a report to the referring agency.

  • Resume Preparation Top
The instructor will provide information on the different styles of resumes and their uses. Samples of the chronological, functional, combination, and electronic resumes will be provided. The instructor will convey the importance of an effective resume and its purpose in the selection process.

  • Disability Disclosure and Advocacy Training Top
Information regarding the disclosure of a disability or injury will be discussed on an individual basis. Employers' responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act will be discussed. The counselor will provide information regarding appropriate questions from employers and the appropriate responses to these questions. Information regarding the request for accommodation will also be provided.

  • Accommodation Consultation Top
A consultant is available to advise employers regarding any accommodation that might be needed for an employee. The consultant will be available to visit the work site, assess the needs, and provide a recommendation regarding specific equipment if needed or other reasonable accommodation.

  • Job Development and Placement Top
A counselor will use the vocational plan to assist the individual in finding suitable employment. Job leads will be provided to the individual as the leads are developed. Job development and placement includes locating positions and discussing the job requirements with the employer. If both parties are agreeable, the counselor will arrange a meeting or job interview to further discuss the details of the job. If on the job training is needed, the counselor will establish the details for the arrangement. The counselor will intervene if needed to insure that the parties are communicating.

  • Post-employment Follow Up Top
Post-employment services are usually provided for a period not to exceed 60 days.
